Seniors Write Community Statement on Supporting Each Other Through College Admissions Process

Each fall, PCS English Teacher Dr. Perera teaches a unit on the Frank Bruni book Where You Go Is Not Who You'll Be. This year, his AP literature classes digested the themes of this book, which unpacks assumptions about the highly-charged topic of college admission as a determining factor in student success, in a creative new way: they made board games.
After exploring the topic together, the Class of 2027 put together this statement about how they are committed to supporting on another through the college admissions process:
"We believe that every student deserves respect, support and celebration regardless of where they go after high school. We commit to valuing people over prestige, growth over comparison, and community over competition. We will respect privacy, avoid judgment, and encourage one another as we pursue paths that reflect our individual goals, circumstances and definitions of success."
The students then signed this statement, which is on display in Dr. Perera's classroom. We are already so proud of our Class of 2027 and wish them all the best as they figure out exactly which next step in their journey is just right for them.
